St. Peter’s felicitate rugby sponsors

St. Peter’s College held a felicitati­on ceremony for their rugby sponsors who are backing them for the 2020 season at Cinnamon Grand Hotel.

It was a gala evening with two ‘ Gold’ sponsors namely Kotmale and Trip A Deal, a leading tour operator from Australia represente­d in Sri Lanka by the country’s leading travel and hospitalit­y partners Aitken Spence Travels Ltd. Then, there was a ‘Silver’ sponsor too EFL3PL who are the logistics arm of Expolanka supporting the Peterites to be on top of the premier rugby playing schools in the island. The Principal Sponsor of Peterite rugby is Themiya de Mel who has been making handsome contributi­ons towards the developmen­t of the College.

Kotmale, a leading dairybased company in Sri Lanka has been with Peterite rugby for the last three years and has renewed their sponsorshi­p package this year for further three years.

Aitken Spence Travels Ltd on behalf of their partner Trip A Deal in Australia has come forward with a ‘Gold’ sponsorshi­p as part of their commitment to engage with local communitie­s.

EFL 3PL has partnered with Peterite Rugby with the idea of helping to groom a new breed of profession­als into the corporate world.

Themiya de Mel had been financiall­y backing the College in different projects like the state-of-the-art 3700-seater stadium with world–class facilities which includes indoor cricket nets, a gymnasium, dressing rooms and medical facilities.

One of the first schools to start rugby in Sri Lanka, Peterite Rugby has carved a strong name with a quality brand of rugby during the past 88 years. Finishing as runnerup in the schools rugby league in 2019, St. Peter’s led by Yohan Fernando as their first XV rugby captain for the year 2020 is eyeing the league title which they lost by a single point in 2019. They successful­ly retained the Milo President’s Trophy knockout title defeating Wesley in the final.

The Peterite team is led by fourth-year player Yohan, a utility forward. Senura Perera and utility b a ck Dilshan Madushanka will be the side’s deputies. Sanath Martis is head coach assisted by Rajive Perera and Banuka Nanayakkar­a.
