Quincy Jones loses legal battle with Jackson estate
Quincy Jones the legendry producer has lost a legal battle with the estate of the late Michael Jackson. The California 2nd District Court of Appeals reversed a 2017 decision of the Los Angeles Supreme Court where Jones was awarded $9.4 million in owed royalties from production material. On 5th May a judge ruled in favour of Michael Jackson’s estate saying the jury had made a mistake in the interpretation of the earlier contract and as it was the job of the judge to do so. Jones was ordered to return only $6.9 million from the earlier ruling. It appears the legal tangle will continue. Quincy Jones now 87 produced Michael Jackson’s ‘Off The Wall’, ‘Thriller’ and ‘Bad’ album which spawned several hit singles. Jones stamped his distinct style on the material he worked with Jackson.
