Irfhan Khan, star who won both Bollywood and Hollywood

Irfhan Khan, one of the most successful actors not only in Bollywood but also in the Hollywood, passed away on April 29. Born to an ordinary family in India, his first love was cricket but he was bowled out due to financial constraint­s. However his second love, acting made him a world renowned star.

Having acted in a number of Indian films, Irfhan’s major breakthrou­gh in Hollywood came in the Academy Awardwinni­ng film ‘Slumdog

Millionair­e’ in 2008. Thereafter he went on to act in a number of British and American films thereafter.

A trained theatre actor in India, Irfhan made his debut with a small role in Bollywood film ‘Saalam Bombay’ and three years later he was offered a role in the British film "The Warrior". Among the foreign films irfhan acted were ‘The Namesake’ (2006), ‘The Darjeeling Limited’ (2007), ‘New York, I Love You’ (2009), ‘The Amazing SpiderMan’ (2012), ‘Life of Pi’ (2012), ‘Jurassic World’ (2015) and ‘Inferno’ (2016).

He won the National Film Award for Best Actor and his highest-grossing Hindi film release came with the comedy-drama Hindi Medium in 2017 and it won him the Filmfare Award for Best Actor. He was awarded the Padma Shri, India’s fourth highest civilian honour for his contributi­on to the field of arts. In 2018, Khan was diagnosed with a neuroendoc­rine tumor and he died at 53.
