‘A Greener Home’ takes root
Events and social gatherings may have come to a standstill with the current restrictions in the country, but by staying virtually connected people have found ways to champion and raise awareness of different campaigns through social media.
Virtually One -- a project by Konfetti Events and the Rotaract Club of Pearl Island consists of a series of events online through Facebook live sessions to promote and foster the Thurumithuru
Nawaratak initiative of the Sri Lankan Army.
“The main motive of this project is to spread awareness of the importance of home gardening as a means of developing Sri Lanka into a selfsufficient economy so that we, as a country will have the ability to provide for ourselves in the event of an economic crisis in a post COVID-19 era,” says co-founder of Konfetti events Shanali Dabare with her partners Santush Kasturinghe and Meschach Perera.
The first phase of the project ‘A Greener Home’ took place on May 23. This was a panel discussion with personalities passionately involved in the Thurumithuru Nawaratak initiative namely actor and agriculturalist Wasantha Duggannarala, Founder/CEO Ikon Marketing Dulinda Perera, fitness coach Gaia Kodithuwakku and social media influencer Senali De Silva.
The panelists through a very holistic and broad-ranging discussion gave valuable insights on the impact home agriculture will have in our country in the days to come.
“It is your future and mine, start gardening and cultivating, let the change begin from you,” Dulinda Perera said as he spoke to his viewers – mainly the younger generation. Senali De Silva reiterated this message saying “Our generation should be prepared to face anything successfully, therefore start now.”
The project consists of five phases and the sessions will be held every Saturday culminating on June 20.
The second event on May 30 is “Magician.LK Presents: A Spellbinding Experience” featuring magicians and illusionists including Yasas Gunarathne, Budshana Kalapuge and many more.
This will be followed by a virtual open mic session named “Serenade” on June 6 and a call has gone out to talented young artists from around the island along with a few professional artists in the Sri Lankan music industry to perform for viewers online.
The fourth and final event will be a series of online discussions with experts in the fitness industry, where we will hear their insights on how to get back on track post COVID-19 and their views on the importance of home-grown organic foods in becoming a healthier version of yourself.
With this series of events Konfetti Events and the Rotaract Club of Pearl Island hope to raise awareness of the Thurumithuru Nawaratak initiative while connecting likeminded individuals who would like to be part of this worthy cause.
