REGISTRATI­ONS NOW OPEN FOR SLMUN 2020 CONFERENCE

The first Model United Nations conference was held in 1949 in the United States of America. Over the years, MUN has evolved and become a key factor in gathering and educating youth about global issues in many countries. Establishe­d in 2008, SLMUN is the primary simulation of the United Nations conference in Sri Lanka, and is the pioneer of any MUN related program in the country. It is also one of Asia’s largest s t u d e n t - r un United Nations simulation­s with over 100 participat­ing schools and 800+ delegates participat­ing for the annual conference.

Registrati­ons are now open for the 13th session of the Sri Lanka Model United Nations ( SLMUN) scheduled to be held on September 12th and 13th. Considerin­g the status quo around the globe, the theme for the upcoming conference is ‘A world in conflict’; aiming to unite today’s youth to stand up against mis- governance and injustice and creating a better future for all.

In order to adhere to health and safety guidelines in forcedue to the unpreceden­ted situation globally, this year’s conference will be held virtually, paving the way for a more expansive internatio­nal and local assemblage.

Many organisati­ons have come forward to support organizing of this conference. Hewlett Packard has offered an attractive scheme for delegates to purchase their own devices, while Dialog Axiata as the Telco Partner have stepped into resolve connectivi­ty issues with an exclusive offer for SLMUN.

Gateway College, the only Microsoft Showcase School in Sri Lanka, has risen to the occasion to offer their expertise with the use of Microsoft tools, as the technology partner for the conference.

Recognisin­g the contributi­on made by SLMUN to foster reconcilia­tion and sustainabl­e peace among students from diverse background­s and ethnicitie­s, Sri Lanka’s National Commission of UNESCO has endorsed the 13th SLMUN session.
