Sri Lankans who have died of COVID-19 abroad

The United Kingdom has reported 33 deaths of Sri Lankans and British citizens of Sri Lankan origin; Kuwait 11 deaths of Sri Lankans; and Dubai & the Northern Emirates 7 deaths of Sri Lankans in the COVID-19 pandemic, but attempts by the Sunday Times to get the death toll from across the country proved futile.

The exact number of Sri Lankans who have died abroad cannot be given as most relatives do not register the deaths of their family at the respective missions overseas, the Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ruwanthi Delpitiya said.

When contacted, the mission in Oman requested the Sunday Times to get in touch with the Foreign Ministry.
