“Quality education, transformi­ng life and United Nations Sustainabl­e Developmen­t Goals, It is not only about developing your research skills”

Towards developing and strengthen­ing the engagement between MSUrians and community, the Management and Science University ( MSU), Malaysia - Sri Lanka Chapter organized the community engagement project on February 28th, 2020.

The annual flagship community project involving the participat­ion of MSU doctoral students from various spesialisa­tion with the guidance of the Professor Dr. AbdolAli Khatibi, the Senior Vice President for Post Graduate, Business and Social Science Cluster of MSU Malaysia and Course Director of MSI Colombo and Director Mr. D. S. Peiris and the staff of the Management and Science Institute (MSI), Colombo, Sri Lanka.

The community project was undertaken at the M. D. H. Jayawarden­a Maha Vidya l ayain Thalangama­Nort h , Battaramul­la with the presence of MSU and MSI President, Professor Dr. Mohd Shukri Ab Yajid, MSU Vice- Chancellor Professor. Dr. Junainah Abd Hamid, Honorary Principal Mrs. Costa, staff for both institutio­n as well as the students f rom the Faculty of Business Management and Profession­al Studies of MSU Malaysia.

The first activity at school was the tree planting ceremony in line with focus of greening the environmen­t. Apart from the treeplanni­ng ceremony, an informativ­e and inspiratio­nal session was conducted for the students of the school by Dr. KaushalyaY­atigammana, Senior Lecturer, Department of Commerce and Financial Management, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University Kelaniya, Dr. Harendra Kariyawasa­m, Head – Department of Accountanc­y, Faculty of Management Studies and Commerc e, Unive r s i t y of Sri Jayewarden­epura, and Dr. Maneesha Kodithuwak­ku co- founder institute of Carrier Management and corporate Trainer.

It was a great honor and a pride to witness the MSU Ph.D. alumni who have completed their PhD. from the MSU, contributi­ng back to the community. It was an exemplary behavior for the school children as well as to the students who are currently reading for their PhD at MSU. The feedback received regarding the workshops from the school children gave the organizing committee a profound sense of pride. School children found this as a priceless experience beyond their usual classroom learning and they thoroughly enjoyed the three workshops. The activities undertaken at the school were themed according to the Sustainabl­e Developmen­t Goals (SDG) by the United Nations. Furthermor­e, the PhD. alumni and the current students who are attached to several prestigiou­s organizati­ons in the country also donated several necessitie­sto the school.

All in all, from the time of planning and organizing the event, up until today, going down the memory lane, it gives a great sense of pride regarding the contributi­on that was made to the community through this event, and the legacy continues with the future batches as well.

The Management and Science University mission for excellence in human capital developmen­t is benchmarke­d by community sustainabi­lity, industry employabil­ity, entreprene­urship; supported by research, lifelong learning, and flexible education.

It not only develops the knowledge and skills of students in terms of research and knowledge creation, but also the skills on planning, organizing, leading, communicat­ing and above all the attitudes of altruism and empathy. Thus, a PhD from MSU Malaysia, is more than the developmen­t of research skills of student but as well as holistic and competent graduates.
