ANC hosts Fresher’s Eve for summer 2020 1st batch

Despite Covid-19 Students commenced their education as planned

-

Every semester the Fresher’s Eve party is one of the most anticipated events hosted for new students by ANC.

This summer 2020, ANC hosted the Fresher’s Eve on July 10th at the Kingsbury Hotel, Colombo for over 40 new students that joined the summer 1stbatch US & Canada transfer programs from a variety of schools including Colombo International School, Stafford International, Lyceum International, Royal Institute, Ladies College and more. ANC took all the necessary precautions and guidelines to ensure the safety of all the students. Fresher’s Eve was the first event that many students met face to face for the first time, and the event was a resounding success and the perfect ice breaker.

Fresher’s Eve had a variety of activities to break the ice; starting off with a fun interactive game “let’s get to know you” where students introduced themselves and shared funny anecdotes of themselves. A guest speaker conducted an inspirational session for these students who are embarking on a brand new chapter in their lives and to make the most of their time at University.

The event wrapped up with a fabulous acoustic guitar singing session with new students and existing students singing to favorite tunes followed by wonderful fellowship over coffee and delicious delectables. Here are few excerpts of what our Fresher’s had to say:

“Fresher’s Eve was a stunning event and meeting my new batch mates for the first time was very exciting. I enjoyed the ‘hot seat’ game where students sit in the middle while other students get to ask questions. We found common interests and it was a lot of fun.

The guest speaker prompted us to thinkabout our careers and my goal has always been to invent new devices. I am glad that ANC helps us to become all rounded students. I wish the event lasted longer but under the circumstances of social distancing I am thankful to ANC for making this possible” – Chanuka Gamage, ANC Canada University Transfer program majoring in Computer Science from Colombo International School.

“Pleasant, splendor and very exciting is how I will describe Fresher’s Eve. The guest speaker session was eye opening and reminded us that nothing is impossible, that we can achieve anything we set our minds to; Covid -19 may have changed us but it has also made us become better human beings. Overall the event was fun, insightful and time well spent with my batch mates. Thanks to everyone at ANC for organizing Fresher’s Eve for us” says Miruthulan Sooriyakumaran, ANC Canada University Transfer program majoring in Biomedical Science from Hindu College.

“It was refreshing to see that many students that joined ANC in summer 2020 commenced their higher studies as planned despite the Coivd-19 pandemic. I appreciate ANC for providing us with anexcellent platform to learn and continue my higher studies. The Fresher’s Eve was the ideal event for us to meet our batch mates and I was so happy to make new friends and engage in the wonderful activities to start the best chapter of my university life” - Ganya Natalie, ANC U.S Transfer student majoring in Engineering from Ladies College.
