Be safe, PHIs tell fishermen

-

The Public Health Inspectors’ (PHI) Union has advised all those who leave the shores of Sri Lanka for fishing to avoid contact with others in the high seas to protect themselves from COVID-19.

“No one from the Sri Lankan fishing community has got infected by the virus and let’s keep it that way,” said PHI Union Secretary Mahendra Balasooriya, urging fishermen to adhere to the preventive health measures.

He commended the navy for taking quick action to prevent the illegal entry of people to the coastal areas of the north.

Many other sources expressed concerns that with India exploding with COVID-19, there could be a major danger for Sri Lanka.

On August 21, there was a spike of 68,898 cases and 983 deaths in India in 24 hours.

The Indian Ministry of Health and Family Welfare reported that the COVID-19 tally was 2,905,824 including 692,028 active cases, 2,158,947 cured/discharged and 54,849 deaths.
