New airline seeks approval for charter flights

A new carrier is tipped to take to Sri Lanka’s skies providing domestic charter flights upon receiving approvals.

Openskies Flight Training Pvt. Ltd, situated in Panadura, is currently seeking approvals to engage in domestic flight operations from the Civil Aviation Authority.

The organisati­on has been in operation as a family-owned business incorporat­ed in 2008 offering aviation training programmes for both Sri Lankan and internatio­nal students, the organisati­on’s website stated.

The organisati­on will be operating one five- seater passenger aircraft and four three- seater passenger aircraft for its domestic flight operations.

Despite the COVID- 19 pandemic the company believes that once tourism revives business will kick-in and due to inquiries that they had received in the

past for charter flights to Jaffna, Batticaloa and Ampara they hope to carry out these services in future.

Openskies already has tie-ups with some of the corporate offices in Colombo since it assists the top management of these companies to travel fast between destinatio­ns within the country.

The company already has the required facilities and manpower to carry out their operations and in this respect, are already well establishe­d.
