-

Assuring domestic and international travellers of being a safe travel destination practicing globally streamlined hygiene procedures, Sri Lanka was recently stamped safe by the World Travel and Tourism Council’s (WTTC), an endeavour initiated by Cinnamon Hotels & Resorts and carried out by Sri Lanka Tourism.

“We consider it a privilege to have been able to initiate the process which led to Sri Lanka being stamped safe by the WTTC,” said President – Leisure Sector, John Keells Group Jit Guneratne. “We are grateful for the support rendered to us by our Group Chairman Krishan Balendra to spearhead this initiative so that domestic and international travellers will have the confidence to patronise Sri Lanka once more as a preferred travel destination, that is also safe, hygienic and diligent in its heath protocols,” he said in a media release.

Having initiated dialogue with WTTC and linking the global institution with Sri Lanka Tourism, Cinnamon Hotels & Resorts was proactive in collating all necessary information of the operational guidelines implemented by Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) endorsed by the Ministry of Health and the World Health Organisation. Then following WTTC’s review of the island’s stringent measures to combat the spread of COVID- 19 coupled with the country’s laudable healthcare system, Sri Lanka was stamped safe as a travel destination that prioritises health, hygiene and sanitation.

“Sri Lanka joins Indonesia to be the only two Asian destinations to receive WTTC’s Safe Travels stamp,” said Mr. Guneratne.

Sri Lanka receiving the Safety Stamp by WTTC marks a milestone achievement for the island and one that will facilitate the dawning of a new era of tourism in the post-COVID-19 world, ranking the island as a preferred travel destination among the global community.
