Politicians and bureaucrats ignoring SC directive to admit their children to popular schools: CTU

-

The Ceylon Teachers Union (CTU) called on the Government last week to take immediate action on politicians and bureaucrats who are ignoring a court directive and admitting children to intermediate classes in popular schools.

This follows a prominent politician's grandson recently being admitted to Grade Two of Royal College this year despite a Supreme Court (SC) directive for no inter-grade admissions to be made in classes.

In 2011, following a FR application filed by the Royal College Old Boys Union, the Supreme Court ruled that no students would be admitted to Grades Two, Three, Four, Five, Seven, Eight, Nine and Ten and classrooms should have a maximum of 35 students. However it was learned that top officials and ministers in the ruling party were ignoring the directive and admitting their children to leading popular schools resulting in the congestion of classrooms.
