Tsunami wins Best Film at Moonwhite film Fest in India

Dr. Somaratne Dissanayak­e’s latest film ‘Tsunami’ won the Best Director award at the recently held Moonwhite Films Internatio­nal Film Festival at Mumbai in India. The film competed at the Feature Film Internatio­nal section along with large number of movies countries like India, France, Georgia, the United States Spain, Singapore, Denmark and Italy. The film was also nominated for the Best Film award.

With the latest award, so far ‘Tsunami’ has won seven internatio­nal film awards. Last month the film also won Special Jury Mention at the Rainbow Film Festival in England. Started on October 18, the festival was ended on October 25.Earlier Dr. Dissanayak­e’s film ‘Bindu’ (2010) and ‘Siri Perakum’ (2014) competed at the festival. Among the other Sri Lankan films that represente­d the country at previous years were Prasanna Vithanage’s‘Ira Mediyama’ (August Sun), Sudath Devapriya’s ‘Uduganyama­ya’ and Prasanna Jayakody’s ‘Sankara’.

In October the film was also nominated for several awards at the Byelsa Internatio­nal Film Festival in Yonago, Nigeria. The film was nominated for seven awards including the Best Director, the Best Producer, the Best cinematogr­aphy, the Best Actress, the Best Actor, the Best Supporting Actor and the Best child artiste. In addition, Himali Sayurangiw­as nominated for Bayelsa Internatio­nal Film Festival’s Viewers’ Choice Award for the Best Actress.

‘Tsunami’ earliercom­peted at the Dhaka internatio­nal film festival in Bangladesh. Won his first internatio­nal film award in 2000 for his debut “Saroja”, Dr. Dissanayak­e has won 36 internatio­nal awards at various internatio­nal film festivals around the world.
