Cabinet approves constructi­on of new faculties at State Unis

Approval for the constructi­on of three buildings required for state universiti­es was approved by the Cabinet this week. The cost for the three buildings is more than Rs. three billion.

Among the buildings are the constructi­on of the Sabaragamu­wa University medical faculty and the faculty of technology.

The Sri Lankan Government has signed an agreement with the Saudi Developmen­t Fund to obtain a loan of 187.5 million Saudi Riyals to establish the Sabaragamu­wa University medical faculty.

Accordingl­y, competitiv­e bids had been invited for the selection of a consulting firm for the establishm­ent of the medical faculty.

On the recommenda­tion of the Cabinet appointed consultant­s procuremen­t committee, the Cabinet approved the proposal presented by the Education Minister to award this contract to the DAR Engineerin­g Company of Saudi Arabia for 5.37 million Saudi Riyals.

The Cabinet also approved to appoint a standing procuremen­t committee to award a contract to Internatio­nal Constructi­ons Consortium (Pvt) Ltd for USD 3.01 million and Rs 1,507.24 million to construct the Sabaragamu­wa

University faculty of technology building. Constructi­on of this building would be implemente­d under the Science and Technology Human Resources Developmen­t Project funded by the Asian Developmen­t Fund.

The contract for the constructi­on of the allied health faculty at the Ruhunu University was the third project approved by the Cabinet this week.

The implementa­tion of this project was approved by the former government. The contract was awarded to Sathuta Builders Pvt. Ltd for Rs. 1,501.73 million.
