Rotary young leaders win key youth awards

Rotary driving the key projects of Covid-19 in the country that has reached over a 1.5 million households on the project ‘Stop the Spread’ was recognized for the leadership on the youth side at Young Generation awards 2020 organized by Women in Management( WIM) and National Youth Council. The event was graced by the Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs Hon Namal Rajapakse.

The key invitees include Chairman Youth Services Council Kanishka Suranimala and Coca Cola Beverages Sri Lanka Limited Managing Director MayankAror­a and the WIM Chairperso­n SulochanaS­egera.

District Interact Representa­tive Rahul Fernandez won the Best Prefect award for Boys and District Rotaract Representa­tive Kasun Segera won for Best youth Media personalit­y which highlighte­d their area of specializa­tion. The Rotary District Youth Chairman Dr Rohantha Athukorala said ‘ The Leadership that the two leaders have demonstrat­ed this year at Rotary projects was outstandin­g. One of the projects Track the Spread has been accepted by the Ministry of Health as a innovative project that can be used on curtailing the virus. It is right now at test market stage voiced Dr Athukorala.

The District Rotary Governor Ajith Weerasingh­e commenter both leaders and said today we need leaders who work on the premise of ‘ Service above self ’ which is the motto of Rotary globally. I am proud to say that we in Rotary identified civil support required to curtail the Covid-19 virus as early as April last year and made this the ‘ District Project’ which was a first in the world of Rotary.
