All of us should see to it that vaccines not approved by WHO are not used here

- K. Bandara Moratuwa

The Government has decided to import COVID-19 vaccines that have not been approved by the WHO and administer it to people. In order to ensure that these are endorsed by the National Medicines Regulatory Authority (NMRA), the Government sacked some top officials at the NMRA and appointed a few faithful henchmen.

One such official had given a statement to the Sunday Times where he quotes the highly respected medical journal ‘The Lancet’ about one of these vaccines, stating that it is ‘ fairly safe’! He has failed to understand that it is ‘ fairly unsafe’ as well.

He goes further to state that these are donations coming on goodwill.

Are we going to accept donations to play with human lives? They may be sent for testing purposes as they are well aware that we are under obligation and cannot refuse. Why should we agree to vaccinate our people using vaccines that have not been approved by the World Health Organization?

It is very strange to note the deafening silence of the GMOA on this issue though it has been making a big hue and cry over COVID- 19 management from the inception.

All right-thinking people should join hands to urge the authorities to suspend the use of these vaccines until WHO approval is given for their use.
