Greed for wealth brings drastic results

- W.C. Dayaratne Matugama

It is saddening and scary to note, how sinfully wealthy individuals are allowed to handle naturally available assets of importance in the country. Their greed for wealth brings about drastic and disastrous results.

The most dangerous practice is cutting away, sand bound soil and washing it to obtain the sand in it. Sand is available in the sea coast in plenty but what is washed away goes ultimately to the sea and is lost. Enough and more good soil is washed away by rain, floods, especially from land prepared for new crops.

Knowledge of science is vital to plan and execute land management. What do these folks know?
