Institute of Physics Sri Lanka (IPSL) now offers a Foundation Course in Physics

-

Institute of Physics Sri Lanka (IPSL) which is the apex body of physicists in Sri Lanka, conducts one year Foundation Course in Physics for students who are seeking an equivalent qualification to GCE (A/L) Physics when entering to some undergraduate degree programmes. Successful completion of this Foundation Course in Physics will exempt students from having a pass in GCE (A/L) Physics subject.

This Foundation Programme covers the content of GCE (A/L) Physics syllabus and is carefully designed to enhance and upgrade the academic qualification of students who seek an equivalent certification for GCE (A/L) Physics. This Program will also be suitable for students who are seeking an additional supportive or revision program in Physics in order them to excel at the GCE (A/L) examination.

The following universities recognise the certificate of the Foundation Programme in Physics as an equivalent qualification for GCE (A/L) Physics when applying to respective programmes: Electronics and Automation Technologies External Degree Programme in University of Colombo, BSc in Applied Science External Degree Programme in Rajarata

University, BSc Degree programme in the Open University of Sri Lanka and many other local and foreign universities where (A/L) physics is required.

Entry requirement for the Foundation Course in Physics requires six passes at GCE (O/L) examination, including passes in Science and Mathematics, or, an equivalent or higher qualification acceptable to the Council of Institute of Physics, Sri Lanka.

This program runs for two, 20 weeks long semesters and students will be required to sit for an examination at the end of each semester. A semester includes 16 weeks of teaching and learning and two weeks of independent study period followed by the end of the semester examination. IPSL wants to provide the best learning experience for students who participate in this program and our experienced teaching faculty which consists of academics from universities and scientists from research institutions, are known for quality teaching and providing personal attention to students depending on their learning requirements. The programme is conducted in both English and Sinhala mediums.

The Institute of Physics, Sri Lanka (IPSL) is a professional body which was established in the year 1980 incorporated by act of Parliament and is the apex body of physicists in Sri Lanka who work for the development of Physics and its applications to upgrade the quality of people. Main objective of the Institute is to promote and advance the science of Physics and its applications in Sri Lanka. The Institute represents the physicist of all the branches in Physics.

In addition to foundation course in Physics, IPSL conducts several other examinations such as Sri Lankan Physics Olympiad Competition, The Sri Lankan Junior Science Olympiad Competition, Sri Lankan Astronomy and Astrophysics Olympiad Competition, Sri Lankan Junior Astronomy Olympiad Competition and several others.

The IPSL publishes the Sri Lankan Journal of Physics, Proceeding of Annual session as extended abstracts, Physics Magazines and newsletters. The Sri Lankan Journal of Physics which publishes two issues per year, is a refereed Journal devoted to physics and related areas. The journal entertains contributions in the form of research papers, research notes or review articles.
