Republic of Korea pledges support for local education and higher education projects

The Korean Government has expressed support to improve education and higher educational programmes in Sri Lanka.

Korean Ambassador to Sri Lanka Santush Woonjin Jeong and Education Minister Dinesh Gunawardena met this week. At this meeting, the ambassador conveyed that the Korean’s Government was supportive of Sri Lanka’s education and high education sectors.

Mathematics, language development, technology development and human resources are among the areas Korea has expressed support in.

A project named “Building a better physical environment for primary and secondary education” will also be implemented in the Kilinochchi district under Korean assistance. The partnership between the Korean government and the local education sector will also result in several other activities and projects, such as four model schools for teacher training and extra- curricular activities and the building and renovation of classrooms.
