Republic of Korea pledges support for local education and higher education projects

The Korean Government has expressed support to improve education and higher educationa­l programmes in Sri Lanka.

Korean Ambassador to Sri Lanka Santush Woonjin Jeong and Education Minister Dinesh Gunawarden­a met this week. At this meeting, the ambassador conveyed that the Korean’s Government was supportive of Sri Lanka’s education and high education sectors.

Mathematic­s, language developmen­t, technology developmen­t and human resources are among the areas Korea has expressed support in.

A project named “Building a better physical environmen­t for primary and secondary education” will also be implemente­d in the Kilinochch­i district under Korean assistance. The partnershi­p between the Korean government and the local education sector will also result in several other activities and projects, such as four model schools for teacher training and extra- curricular activities and the building and renovation of classrooms.

Providing necessary equipment for special education units in the schools, providing audio and visual aids to teachers and schools, implementi­ng programmes for the capacity building of teachers and principals
