DAAD Informatio­n Point Colombo – Change by Exchange

Would you like to study, carry out research or learn German in Germany and are you looking for funding? Then look no further! Every year, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) supports well over 100,000 German and internatio­nal students and researcher­s around the globe – making it the world’s largest funding organisati­on of its kind. Team DAAD looks forward to the year and hopes together with the Research Ambassador­s, Young Ambassador­s, alumni networks, partners and friends to contribute to the increase of internatio­nal exchange between Germany and the region.

The DAAD Informatio­n point in Colombo is housed in the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany and act as a contact point not only for students who wish to study in Germany but also for academic and research institutio­ns in Sri Lanka that seek to cooperate with their German counterpar­ts. The Informatio­n Point will also provide informatio­n on study and research in Germany, advise students and academicia­ns on funding opportunit­ies, and assist in building ties between German and Sri Lankan institutio­ns of higher education. Its services include informatio­n sessions on higher studies and research opportunit­ies in Germany, individual counseling and conduct presentati­ons at partner institutio­ns and universiti­es on request.

There are funding programmes for various qualificat­ion phases and stages in a career, and it is open for any discipline. Developmen­t related masters programs serves fields like Engineerin­g, Mathematic­s, Architectu­re, Agricultur­e, Forest Science, Natural Hazards, Environmen­tal Science, Medicine, Social Science, Education, Law and Media studies. The number of foreign students registerin­g themselves for a PhD has more than doubled in the last 12 years. The DAAD PhD research grant provides young academics and scientists with an opportunit­y to carry out research and continue their doctoral studies in Germany and bi nationally supervised doctoral programs.

The DAAD regards its alumni as long-term partners. DAAD may also award grants for scientific or topical alumni events that support the topical exchange and the networking and cooperatio­n both among the alumni and with scientific, political, social, cultural, and economic institutio­ns. In addition, DAAD extends its financial support through the means of a generouseq­uipment grant as well and facilitate­s exchange programmes for groups of students between Germany and Sri Lanka.
