A/L, Grade five scholarship exams likely to be postponed till early 2022

-

Discussions are underway to decide whether the G.C.E Advanced Level exams and the Grade five scholarship exams scheduled later this year should be postponed to early next year, Education Reforms, Promotion of Open Universities and Distance Learning State Minister Susil Premajayantha said.

The exams were scheduled for November after being delayed due to the COVID-19 situation.

Mr Premajayantha told Parliament recently that a full announcement on the matter will be made once the discussions are finalised.

He was responding to Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa, who raised the question about the dates of the exams and completion of syllabuses.

Mr Premajayantha pointed out that more time should be given for syllabuses to be covered and there was a likelihood of the exmas being delayed until early next year.

The Minister also said that almost 87% of teachers, principals and school administrative staff have been vaccinated and schools are likely to reopen soon in four stages.
