New release at the top of the charts

Ed Sheeran and Sir Elton John’s new release ‘Merry Christmas’ has landed straight in at the No: 1 position on the UK singles chart. The duet has taken the pole position a week after its release with 76,700 chart sales and 7.6 million streams. ‘Merry Christmas’ ended the seven week reign by Adele’s ‘Easy On Me’. The idea behind ‘Merry Christmas’ was floated a year ago by Elton John to Ed Sheeran during a telephone conversation. Sheeran apparently wrote a part of the song the same day. The song has been released with all proceeds going to Ed Sheeran’s Suffolk Music Foundation and the Elton John AIDS Foundation. The yuletide duet appears on Sheeran‘s new album ‘=’ and Sir Elton’s current album ‘The Lockdown Sessions’.
