-

British High Commissioner, Sarah Hulton, recognizes the partnership between Academy of Design (AOD) and De Montfort University in the United Kingdom for their graduate school program.

The first of its kind on the island, the Masters qualification will enable students to have access to a British qualification on the shores of Sri Lanka.

There are three Masters Programmes offered, MA in Design and Innovation, MA Design Management and Entrepreneurship and finally MA Contour Fashion Innovation.

These three degrees prepare students to use technology, innovation and analytics to further their careers within the design industry. At a time of unprecedented challenges brought about by the global pandemic, this programme will gear its students to hone strong entrepreneurial and intrapreneurial skills to combat this challenging climate.

On the 10th of December, the British High Commissioner of the United Kingdom to Sri Lanka addressed the current batch of MA students. She noted “This partnership is a clear example of one of many links that keep our two nations connected. Education and Design are two important sectors to both countries as they open up a wide range of exciting career opportunities for individuals globally”

AOD’s partnership with De Montfort University paves the journey for students to face the challenges that exist in our ‘new normal’ world. The programmes equip students with creative design thinking, problem solving skills and entrepreneurial spirit to navigate the world we live in.

This partnership is ground breaking, as it enables students to have access to world renowned and industry recognised education, paired with AOD’s vast network of entrepreneurs, funding bodies and experts in the design field. The combination of these two powerhouses, results in a programme that is unmatched to any offered on the island.

The Academy of Design remains unparalleled within the design industry, as pioneers in introducing the importance of design to Sri Lanka. Together with its extensive experience within the field of design education, its comprehensive access to industry professionals and networks of partners, students are sure to have a launch pad into the corporate world. Here students’ own visions are groomed to achievable dreams and goals!

The two-year program will include mentoring students into becoming all-rounders in their fields.

The engaging, hands-on nature of the programme, will ensure that each student has a first hand and curated learning experience, suited to their own unique needs.

This, paired with a structured learning programme, will empower students to excel, along with the guidance of the De Montfort University expertise. Any student who joins the program has the unique opportunity to gain access to a host of internationally acclaimed patrons, but also have the additional benefit of engaging with AOD’s own ecosystem of funding bodies, global experts and more.

This Masters programme is ideal for young design driven entrepreneurs, who wish to elevate their practice to becoming leaders in their industry. However, this program is not only for designers alone, it is also open to anyone who wishes to engage in the corporate world or has an already established business.

Business strategists, analysts and management decision makers will also be able to gain a lot of valuable insight into their own practises. The ideal student is one that wants to become a change maker! This is a Masters programme for doers, movers and shakers!

Whilst the corporate world has seen many small business start-ups, with huge potential, only a few have managed to sustain the initial buildup. These programmes ensure that students are groomed in both business acumen and skills in order to continue growth, disrupt the status quo and remain successful.

The MA Design Innovation degree explores key design skills and creative outlook to complement individual career aspirations and therefore ensures a tailored education experience. MA Design Management and Entrepreneurship explores the use of design management, design thinking, brand management, examining the role of design in service industries and developing business planning skills. MA Contour Fashion explores creativity, technologies and entrepreneurship alongside technical considerations.

It is clear that all three programs on offer are a well-rounded mixture of both skill as well as business acumen. The combination seems to be integral in navigating the volatile world we live in. Creative thinking is key in survival! Are you ready to kick-start your vision and make it a roaring success?
