J’pura University to receive new Faculty of Allied Health Sciences

-

A gazette detailing the establishment of a Faculty of Allied Health Sciences at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura has been issued by Education Minister Dinesh Gunawardena.

Along with the newly introduced faculty, the university now has eight faculties providing both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes for students.

The University of Sri Jayewardenepura is home to the largest Faculty of Applied Sciences in the island in terms of both staff and students.

Nurturing such a large science division, the university long foresaw the necessity of a stand-alone faculty dedicated to the allied health sciences, a University official said.

New qualified staff members in related fields have been recruited to provide support of the highest standards for the incoming students. The Faculty of Allied Health Sciences will receive total support from the Faculty of Medical Sciences during its advancement to be a well-recognised faculty in the national higher education sphere while producing competent, efficient and well-rounded health care professionals for the nation.

Prior to this expansion, the university also established the Faculty of Engineering and the Faculty of Technology in 2016.
