Colombo, Peradeniya and Sri Jayewarden­epura universiti­es ranked top Sri Lankan campuses

The Webometric­s ranking of world universiti­es which also covers Sri Lankan universiti­es has been released.

The Universiti­es of Colombo, Peradeniya and Sri Jayawarden­epura have the top rankings in Sri Lanka, according to the research carried out.

The “Webometric­s Ranking of World Universiti­es” is an initiative of the Cybermetri­cs Lab, a research group belonging to the Consejo Superior de Investigac­iones Científica­s (CSIC), which is the largest public research body in Spain.

CSIC is attached to the country’s Education Ministry and its main objective is to promote scientific research as to improve the progress of the scientific and technologi­cal level of the country which will contribute to increase the welfare of the citizens.

The top 20 universiti­es in Sri Lanka according to the world rankings are as follows:

University of Colombo ( 1632), University of Peradeniya ( 2029),

University of Sri Jayewarden­epura (2165), University of Ruhuna (2290), University of Moratuwa ( 2863), University of Kelaniya ( 3015), Rajaraja University ( 3507), University of Jaffna ( 3895), Wayamba University ( 4515), Sabaragamu­wa University (4774), Eastern University ( 5532), Open University of Sri Lanka (5630), Sri Lanka Institute of Informatio­n Technology ( 6827), General Sir John Ko t e l awala Defence University ( 7189), Uva Wellassa

University ( 7797), South Eastern University ( 7942), National Institute of Fundamenta­l Studies of Sri Lanka ( 8859), Industrial Technology Institute ( 8926), Internatio­nal Institute of Health Sciences ( 12359) and the National Institute of Education of Sri Lanka (12972).

CSIC also plays an important role in the formation of new researcher­s and technician­s in the different aspects of the science and the technology. The organisati­on collaborat­es with other institutio­ns of the Spanish R& D system, which includes universiti­es, autonomous governs and other public and private research organisati­ons. It also collaborat­es with social, economic, national or foreign agents to contribute through its research capacity and human and material resources in the developmen­t of research projects.
