-

' Rasawadiya' is one of the best c u l t u r a l eve n t s held at Management and Science Institute (MSI) on the 22nd of January 2022, the students of the Bachelor of Hospitality and Tourism Mana g e m e n t under the Department of Hospitality and Creative Arts organised this event, which created a memorable experience to start off the new year 2022.

Due to the Covid 19 pandemic, the students were confined to their homes for nearly two years. During this time, our university delivered all of its lectures via online platforms in accordance with the guidelines established by the authorities. As a result, the majority of students missed out on realworld experience during their university education. However, due to the limited number of participants, we were only able to hold a few events during the pandemic, and most of the workshops and seminars were held online.

Once the university began physical lectures at the MSI, there were challenges in attracting all of the students back to the University. As a solution and to get our students back on track with their university education and experience, we thought of organising a cultural event that would improve the students' knowledge of Sri Lankan Traditional Cuisine and Music.

When we think about the modern- day student’s involvement in the field of aesthetic is very low. Due to the influence on social media, they have changed their lifestyles to have more virtual society to share their ideas and thoughts. Not only that there are so many cases reported that when a student is having an issue, they always try to find solutions through these social medias where they have put themselves in trouble. Therefore, the university thought of organizing an event where we could reunion the students and to have a good social interaction.

This event was ended up with a great success due to the efforts of the students and all academic as well as non- academic staff. The event theme was Rasawadiya and all the participants dressed traditional dresses to emphasise the

Sri Lankan traditions. Further all the participants had their dinner in the banana leaves and even the menu also was designed with a set of traditional dishes. All the participants including the chief guests had to sit on the mats throughout the event.

The band Kurumba was a highlighting part of this event where they have selected the songs which were popular during the decades of 1970, 1980 and 1990s. Further they have done a wonderful entertaining and meaningful event and they have shared the meanings of the songs to increase the students taste towards Sri Lankan music with its meaning. The band Kurumba has created by including a set of students as well as some lecturers of hospitality and tourism sector which created a significant attraction among all the participants of the event.

Our Special Thanks to the Chief Guest Mrs. Achala Soyza, the Human Resources Director of Hilton Hotels and Mr. Sam Peiris, the Director of MSI for inspiring and motivational speeches and our g r atitude t o Mr. S u r a n g a Thennakoon, the lecturer in charge for the Event, Mr. Ali Idroos and Mr. Charith Thalagala for their guidance and leadership as well as all the Bachelor of Hospitality & Tourism Management students for their hard works and contribution to success on this event.
