Liverpool John Moores University, UK offers 2 Unique MSc. Programmes with Sri Lanka Technological Campus

-

The Sri Lanka Technological Campus ( SLTC) is a Research University led by Eng. Ranjith Rubasinghe keeps a clear vision to upgrade the SLTC to number 1 research university in the region. The School of Postgraduate Studies & Research (SPSR) is the new wing that joined Sri Lanka Technological Campus, Sri Lanka to foster research and postgraduate education in the university and is headed by an award winning academic, Prof. ( Eng.) Dushantha Jayakody, Fellow of IET and Senior Member of IEEE. We offer industry focused and researchoriented higher grade training at the postgraduate level. This facilitates our students to enjoy a unique experience during their stay with our Research University. Producing original research is a substantial factor of our graduate studies programmes.

MSc in Wireless Communications - Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU), UK

LJMU MSc in wireless communications covers a range of advanced topics related to wireless communications and networks and related signal processing. It is delivered on an online platform by a mix of local and foreign lecturers to progress the skills that are necessary for careers in fields in wireless communications & networks. This programme builds on the internationally recognised research strengths of the Center for Telecommunication Research (CTR) @ SLTC. This group has earned an international reputation of pioneering research in a number of key fundamental and experimental work areas, including wireless communication for 5G, coding theory, advanced non- orthogonal multiple access technologies, radio frequency energy harvesting technologies. The group has well-equipped laboratories with excellent computational facilities. The MSc offers training in design, analysis and other skills relevant to the theory and practice of the wireless communications industry or academic career. Excellent students with an interest in academic careers may opt in to our PhD Telecommunication Engineering. Dr Tharindu Ponnimbaduge and Dr

Udesh Oruthota serve as programme leaders.

MSc in Embedded Systems and IC Design-- Liverpool John Moores University(LJMU), UK

MSc in Embedded Systems and IC Design is a unique program offered by SLTC with the partnership with LJMU. This MSc program covers the advanced concepts of building embedded systems using high- end microchips, designing ICs with custom embedded system designs, and testing the built systems with industry standard tools. The focus on the IC design concepts makes this programme a unique programme in Sri Lanka. Further, our in-house experts in nanoelectronics deliver advanced knowledge on state-of-the-art CMOS devices and systems, fabrication and testing of microelectronic devices and in the latest consumer electronic products. The program is also associated with the national research lab for embedded systems in Madurai. Hence, at the end of this MSc program the students will be in excellent positions to pursue their careers in either world-class industries or academia. Dr Sampath Edirisinghe and Dr Nicoloy Gurusinghe Serve as programme leads.

With the recent advancements in IoT devices and wireless communications, significant attention from local researchers have been received to incorporate UAVs in the field of agriculture for the operations such as disease recognition, condition monitoring, assist automation, etc. In this project, we developed a UAV-assisted disease recognition mobile application for a plantation, which provides a clearer understanding of crop health, quality and enhanced agricultural monitoring. Once the UAV is deployed near a plantation, it travels within the plantation and detects the diseases by analyzing the color patterns of the leaves. Once the diseased plant is detected, the location of the plant and other relevant information will be sent real- time to the given mobile phone. The project will be further developed in the future to improve performance & energy efficiency by adapting better trajectory and resource optimisation along with incorporating improved versions of the machine learning based image processing within the application. This product is developed by the CTR student researcher Promod Kalkara and B.S.D Senanayake, undergraduates of SLTC.
