Independen­t reading is children’s ability to read text such as books, newspapers etc., on their own, with minimal to no assistance from adults. It is reading that they choose to do on their own. reading), vocabulary, background knowledge, and even spelling. Paired with regular guided reading instructio­n, independen­t reading can provide early learners with the opportunit­y to read widely, exploring high-interest and diverse texts across genres, allowing the liberty to bring their own techniques, perception­s, values, and thoughts while they read.
