Can Sri Lanka avoid a series whitewash?

-

Going into the last game of the five- match series which the hosts comfortably leads 4- 0, Sri Lanka will hope their misfiring batters live up to their billings to avoid a whitewash when the two teams meet up for one final time in the series this afternoon.

Barring Pathum Nissanka, the man on a purple patch in the shortest format of the game, scoring 171 runs off just four innings, the rest have failed to put runs on the board to leave Sri Lanka snaring at a 5-0 defeat.

Sri Lanka bowling have been impre s s ive right through the series, containing free scoring Australian batters but their batters failed to let the team down badly. A score of 150 was within Sri Lanka’s reached in the opening game played at the Sydney grounds, but conceded defeat by 20 runs.

The second game went to the wire with scores tied but Australia won the one- over eliminator. The World champions put on a dominant performance in the third game to win by 6 wickets and 19 balls remaining to take an inaccessible lead before another comprehensive win on Friday put Aussies on the verge of a whitewash.
