Duke of Edinburgh Award presentation

-

The award presentation of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award was held on January 26, at the Youth and Sports Ministry, Colombo 7, for the years 2019, 2020, and 2021.

The event was graced by Youth and Sports Minister Namal Rajapaksa, and many distinguished personalities from the Youth Council and Youth Ministry of Sri Lanka. Awards pins and certificates were presented to the awardees who completed the gold, silver, and bronze programmes of the Duke of Edinburgh's Awards.

The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award was established in 1956 by the late Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Philip. The intention of the programme is to support youth aged 14-24 regardless of background, culture, physical ability, skills, or interest. The awardees’ efforts to voluntarily perform a service, develop a skill, engage in physical recreational activity, and participate in an adventurous journey are recognised. The awards programme was introduced to Sri Lanka by the late Duke himself in 1981 to enhance Sri Lankan youth's ability to deal with hardships, and be self- sufficient.

This intention is brought to life throughout the country, from rural to urban locales.
