CA Sri Lanka kicks off Advanced Certificate Course on Data Analytics to enable better decision makers

-

Having understood the increasing importance of data analytics and the key role it plays in helping organisations make better decisions, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (CA Sri Lanka) recently launched the Advanced Certificate Course on Data Analytics.

The inaugural batch, which was a sell- out, was launched under the patronage of Mr. Heshana Kuruppu, Vice President of CA Sri Lanka and Ms. Lakmali Priyangika, Director - Student Affairs.

Data analytics plays a key role in helping organisations and businesses gain insight into the enormous amount of knowledge they need for further production and growth. As such, data analytics enables better decision making for businesses.

The six-month course is an ideal programme for CFOs, Finance Managers, Accountants, as well as Financial and Business Analysts, and CXOs who require a 360 view of the business, apart from being especially pertinent to accounting students and aspiring Chartered Accountants, as data analytics is also offered as a specialisation under the CA Sri Lanka Curriculum.

From a contemporary yet challenging curriculum covering the most in- demand skills, tools, and technologies in data analytics that

are primed for industry relevance, the participants will also be taken through an important series of areas ranging from business intelligence using Tableau and Power BI, to data mining using SQL, and statistical analysis using R programming languages.

The advanced certificate course will also branch into machine learning and artificial intelligence using Python with algorithms of increasing complexity, starting with decision trees and random forests. Participants will also be introduced to the latest cloud and big data technologies using Azure cloud services.

President of CA Sri Lanka Mr. Sanjaya Bandara, said that due to the vital role data plays, the role of the accountant has been further transformed. “Therefore, to help our members and future members take on these new roles with success, we are in the process of introducing a series of programmes, to reskill our members and students so they possess the necessary skills to drive businesses forward in these highly volatile and challenging times.”

Mr. Bandara said that he was delighted to learn that the course was a sell-out which compelled CA Sri Lanka to close registrations even before the deadline. “This is testament to the fact that our members and our students are keen to update and upgrade their skills in line with today’s trends and market demands, so that they can continue to be contemporary professionals,” he added.

Mr. Kuruppu said that due to the overwhelming demand for the course, CA Sri Lanka will soon commence a second batch. “Our primary aim is to become a catalyst in the field of data analytics. This course will no doubt enable finance professionals to successfully drive forward as a key value enabler, which will help organisations strategise using data and leap into the future successfully.”
