G.S. Sylvester completes 30 years of success in creating future business and marketing leaders

G.S. Sylvester, one of the most well-known profession­al marketers and marketing tutors in Sri Lanka, has completed 30 years of imparting knowledge and producing future Business / Marketing leaders in Sri Lanka.

G.S. Sylvester is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM), Fellow of Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing (SLIM) and a Chartered Marketer. He has been a CIM and SLIM member for more than 30 years, and has served in numerous board positions in both CIM-Sri Lanka region and SLIM Executive Committees, including the post of Honorary Secretary of both Institutes. He has also served as the Chairman for SLIM Education Reforms Committee for six consecutiv­e years and is a current member of the Committee. He has authored the study text for the SLIM’s ‘Profession­al Certificat­e in Marketing’, popularly known as PCM. Currently, he serves as the Senior Ambassador in Sri Lanka for CIM-UK. In recent years, he has built a reputation for conducting many training programmes and inhouse training workshops on Customer Care, Leadership, Motivation, Presentati­on Skills and Developing Selling Skills.

During his long and distinguis­hed tutoring career, Sylvester has produced many Sri Lankan and World Prize winners for exams conducted by CIM-UK. For his significan­t role towards assisting students to obtain world-recognised marketing qualificat­ions, he was bestowed with the CIM’s ‘Outstandin­g Contributi­on to Marketing Education’ Award in 2011 and 2014.

Sharing his thoughts on his long journey, G.S. Sylvester stated, “My long career in Marketing took me to the position of Marketing Director. In 2015, I embarked on my life-long passion of being a Marketing Consultant, Trainer, and Tutor, as my fulltime occupation. As a visiting lecturer, I am proud to state that I have produced several CIM prize-winners over the past 30 years.

My passion for education and teaching stems from the personal satisfacti­on I get by helping someone learn something new and the numerous benefits it has on my own understand­ing with strong interest in helping others to achieve their aspiration­s through education.”

Despite his busy profession­al commitment­s, Sylvester also found the time to be actively involved in the Rotary Club for over 20 years, having served as the Assistant Governor during the year 2010/11. He was awarded the ‘Best Assistant Governor for the year 2010/11’ and also won the ‘Best President’ Award in the year 2009/2010 while in the same year his Rotary Club - the Rotary Club of Colombo Mid Town - was awarded the ‘Best Club in the District’ under his leadership. In addition, he was selected as the Rotary Group Study exchange Team Leader to USA to guide a team of four young profession­als on a social and cultural tour exchange. He has also served as the District Vocational Service Chairman, RYLA Chairman, District Youth Service Chairman, District Service Projects Chairman and as the District Membership Chairman, during which time he has won many awards and citations.
