The British Council’s Skills Plus course designed to help students improve their communicat­ion skills for higher education and careers after A-Levels

The British Council is now taking registrati­ons for their Skills Plus English course specially designed for students who have completed their A- Level exams. The course has been customised to help students build confidence and develop their English language skills. It is supplement­ed by life skills aimed at young adults who are making important life choices in their school and career plans.

The course provides an opportunit­y to meet and interact with likeminded individual­s and uses project- based, active learning techniques to make lessons relevant and applicable to real- life situations. It focuses on a variety of communicat­ion skills such as delivering presentati­ons, taking part in debates, team building, digital literacy whilst also enabling students to develop important life skills such as collaborat­ion, leadership and personal developmen­t, creativity and critical thinking. Skills Plus offers five different levels, from elementary to advanced, thereby giving students an opportunit­y to improve their skills.

Anju Moses, Head of Young Learners and Adults, Teaching Centre, said, “our students work together in and outside the classroom to complete real- world projects such as developing a developmen­t project proposal for the Sri Lankan board of tourism or designing a campaign to promote safe use of social media in Sri Lankan Universiti­es.

During these projects students will learn and practice research skills, critical thinking and collaborat­ive skills which will support them in their future studies and career”
