Change in the guidelines

-

New guidelines have been issued by the DirectorGeneral (DG) of Health Services with regard to public and work-related activities effective from March 1 to 31.

The DG has stated that significant control of the COVID-19 epidemic has been achieved in the country. However, there is still a risk of escalation in transmission due to cluster formation. As such preventive measures need to be practised.

He has strongly advocated continued practice to prevent spread by resorting to distancing (D), respiratory etiquette (Re), aseptic techniques — hand hygiene and disinfecting common and frequently touched surfaces (A) and wearing of masks in public (M) – ‘DReAM’ in the new normal.

The areas cited for ‘more attention’ are: A continuous programme to educate the public and communicate risks with wide media coverage on the adherence to recommended health practices.

Getting 100% coverage of vaccination for the recommended target groups.

Refraining from non- essential travel and restricting movements outside the home as far as possible.

Safer transport methods should be used/provided. Improving the availability of transport facilities that are less crowded. This should include only seated passengers in public transport; public and shared transport should preferably be non-air-conditioned with the windows open; and all passengers should wear masks properly, during travel. Workplaces can function as usual, adhering to COVID-19 precautionary measures.

Here is the manner in which some public activities are to be permitted:

Persons leaving home – avoid unnecessary travel out of the home to minimize the risk of transmission of COVID-19 to household members and colleagues.

Weddings – a maximum 75% of the usual capacity of the hall while adhering to COVID-19 preventive measures.

Funerals – to be held, adhering to COVID-19 preventive measures.
