Attack on SJB office: Kotte MC's UNP members call for action against council workers

-

The Kotte Municipal Council's 11 United National Party members in solidarity with the Samagi Jana Balawegaya have called for an inquiry and disciplinary action against the employees who took part in a protest outside the SJB head office in Kotte.

The 11 UNP members later walked out of the council meeting in protest against the incident.

Earlier, addressing the council meeting, Opposition Leader Chandima Nayanajith ( UNP) said about 125 council employees had taken part in the protest on March 7 while on duty and some had even hurled eggs. He said one SLPP councillor pasted stickers, banners and leaflets on SJB officials' vehicles parked in front of the head office.

He said that an inquiry should be held and disciplinary action taken against those who took part in the protest.

D e p u t y M ayo r Premalal Athukorala said he agreed that action should be taken against the employees even if they were under pressure to take part in the protest.

He said he had the names of the employees who participated in the protest and they should be suspended.
