PCHE Students Transfer to Deakin University, after successful­ly completing the Degree Pathway in Early Childhood Education

Students who successful­ly completed the Diploma in Early Childhood Education awarded by Prospects College of Higher Education (PCHE) transferre­d to Deakin University Melbourne, Australia recently. They received 8 credits, and directly transferre­d to the 2nd year of the Bachelor of Early Childhood Education, as well as the Bachelor of Early Childhood and Primary Education awarded by Deakin University. All the students received 25% scholarshi­ps. The students also participat­ed in a pre-departure briefing and a farewell event jointly organised by the Deakin University Sri Lanka office and PCHE which was held at the Cinnamon Grand Hotel.

The pathway is a joint collaborat­ion between PCHE and the Faculty of Arts and Education, at Deakin University. Faculty colleagues at the School of Education are welcoming the students to Deakin via an informal lunch upon their arrival on campus.

Dathri De Silva, a past pupil of Ladies’ College Colombo shared her views about the programme. ‘I love working with kids and found that a degree in early childhood education would enable me to fulfill my dream of becoming an effective early childhood educator. Therefore, I enrolled for the Diploma in Early Childhood Education at Prospects College of Higher Education (PCHE), as I wanted to complete the pathway programme in Sri Lanka and continue at Deakin from the second year onwards. The curriculum was comprehens­ive and covered diverse topics. The lecturers at Prospects gave me all the support to complete the programme and I received exemptions for the first year of the Bachelor’s in Early Childhood and Primary Education at Deakin University, Australia.

Currently I am studying at

Deakin and I am excited to complete my degree at a world class university. I enjoy the subjects and the different methods of learning. Thank you Prospects and Deakin for all the support to make my dream come true!

Lisini Wijesekara, a past pupil of Musaeus College spoke about her experience in the programme, ‘I joined PCHE after completing my A/L’s. The practical exposure, experience, and opportunit­ies which I received throughout the Diploma in Early Childhood Education, which included placements at well equipped preschools, prepared me well to commence the 2nd year of the Bachelor of Early Childhood Education at Deakin University. The lecturers as well as the Director of Academics of PCHE, personally supported, guided and motivated me throughout my learning journey. I’m glad I

I received a scholarshi­p to pursue my 2nd and 3rd years of the Bachelor’s degree at Deakin University. I’m very grateful and thankful to the lecturers and staff at PCHE and Deakin University, for making my dream a reality. I would like to wish all the new students who are enrolled in the programme, the very best, and I’m sure that they too would achieve their dreams.
