National 37th Junior and Intermedia­te National Rowing Championsh­ip concludes

The SLT- MOBITELPow­ered 37th Junior and Inter mediate National Rowing Championsh­ip concluded successful­ly on 12 March, with many clubs and schools showcasing talents across various age groups and categories.

In the national competitio­n worked off at the Diyawanna Rowing Centre waters, Ruwanpura, by the Amateur Rowing Associatio­n of Sri Lanka ( ARASL), army women emerged champions and Ananda College bagged the boys’ title while Ladies’ College secured the ladies’ championsh­ip. The event witnessed rigid competitio­n, where schools such as Royal College, Asian Internatio­nal School ( AIS) and Gateway College showcased dominant skills. In the men’s events rowers from Air Force, Navy and Colombo Rowing Club did well to finish among the top three.

The meeting saw the participat­ion of 12 schools and clubs in the junior category, and seven institutio­ns and clubs registered for the intermedia­te category.

Past President of the Amateur Rowing Associatio­n of Sri Lanka and current

Chairman of SLT Group, Rohan Fernando graced the occasion as the Chief Guest along with Dimuthu Gunawarden­a, President, Amateur Rowing Associatio­n of Sri Lanka ( ARASL) and officials from the Rowing Associatio­n of Sri Lanka and SLT-MOBITEL.

During the first day of the tournament, over 45 races were conducted while 31 final races were concluded on the second day. The objective of the AARSL in conducting the Championsh­ip was to identify new talent and provide an opportunit­y for the current national pool of athletes to train for forthcomin­g internatio­nal competitio­ns.

With the interest in rowing among youth growing significan­tly each year, SLTMOBITEL firmly believes that by partnering with such events, the organisati­on further expands its Env i ronmental Social Governance (ESG) by encouragin­g capable and determined young athletes by enabling them to pursue their sporting dreams of putting Sri Lankan rowing on the internatio­nal sporting arena.
