‘Sundown Jam 2022’:

Night to remember Cream of Lankan talent in action at 80 Club

‘Sundown Jam 2022’, the very first a real musical experience after a two years of long silence, featuring the cream of Sri Lankan Western music circle will come alive tonight (20th March, 2020) at the grand old ‘80 Club’, Colombo-7 from 5.00pm onwards.

Organised by the Western Musicians Associatio­n of Sri Lanka (WMA), ‘Sundown Jam 2022’ will follows the success of the last Sundown Jam held back in March 2020 by the WMA, just a few weeks before the Covid pandemic hit Sri Lanka. The ‘Sundown Jam 2022’ Concert returns with a bang this year, boasting a excellent line-up of musicians displaying a variety of genres, with the promise of a night to remember. ‘‘Sundown Jam 2022’ will feature some of the best artistes of the Sri Lankan western music circle and all-time favourite hits ranging from ‘60s to current trends. This is going to be the biggest musical extravagan­za to be held in post pandemic era’ said Rajitha Rupasinghe, the President of the Western Musicians Associatio­n and the leader of Misty.

This mega event will also host over twenty solo artistes including veterans such as Geoffrey Fernando of Purple Rain fame, Piyal Perera of Gypsies, Donald Peiris of Mirage, Sohan Weerasingh­e of X’ Periments, Rukshan Perera, Noeline Honter, Corrine Almeida, Judy De Silva, Sureshni Wanigasuri­ya, Fabien Bonny, Kanthie de Silva, Evans de Fonseka,

Ellsworth de Silva, Radika Rajavelu, Trishelle Wijethunga, Rohan Fernando and Clifford Richards as well as up and coming new artistes Sidath Nanayakkar­a, , Varuni Weeratne and Neomal Pieris.

‘Sundown Jam 2022’ is a presentati­on, under the theme ‘Care For the WMA Community’. The primary objective of the event is to raise funds for the welfare of Western Musicians, who, at present, do not enjoy any benefits or privileges from the State, or any private organisati­on in case of an emergency, or in the event of any illness. WMA Concert 2022 is for its members in order to continue their work in supporting bands and artistes navigate their way through the new normal’ Rajitha expalined.

The WMA was initiated in 2016 as an associatio­n that provides assistance and developmen­t to

the western musicianso­f Sri Lanka and acts as a representa­tive body for the community. The top western musicians and bands in the country are banded together as members of the WMA. The associatio­n currently has several hundred musicians and bands within its membership and includes not just Sri Lanka’s leading bands and artistes, but also up and coming bands, rising soloists and instrument­alists and newcomers from all genres of music across the island in order to support and guide them in navigating and succeeding in the industry.

WMA is mainly formed in view of supporting and strengthen­ing their member artiste and it plays a major role in the work they do. Following the Easter attacks in 2019 and then the onslaught of the present Covid-19 pandemic that has been crippling industries for over 2 years, the WMA has been a pillar of strength to its members in surviving through these times’ Rajitha added.

Sundown Jam 22 is organized by the WMA Executive Committee for 2021-2023 with Rajitha Rupasinghe as President, Corrine Almeida as Vice President, Judy De Silva as Vice President and Secretary and Janappriya Weeraratne as Treasurer.
