Nubian Sandstone Aquifer System (NSAS)

The NSAS is one of the largest known aquifer systems in the world, covering an area of approximately 2.6 million square kilometres and spanning four countries in North East Africa – Egypt, Libya, Chad and Sudan.

It holds water deposited thousands of years ago, which has been undisturbed and, therefore, categorised as fossil water or paleowater.
