Sri Lanka’s oldest and largest producer of qualified Laboratory Technician

Diploma in Laboratory Technology ( DLT) is the oldest and most renowned programme in Sri Lanka that produce profession­ally qualified Laboratory Technician­s annually. This successful programme will be enrolling its 49th batch for the year 2022.

Students who have successful­ly completed this course conducted by the Institute of Chemistry Ceylon are currently employed in many wellknown chemical, analytical and medical laboratori­es in Sri Lanka as well as worldwide. Laboratori­es of Most of the well- known private hospitals are providing opportunit­ies in employing our students at an increasing rate.

This is a two year course which includes both theory and practical sessions. The first year covers basic chemistry subjects as well as Management, IT & Statistics and in the second year students can specialize in either in Food & Material Technology or Clinical Laboratory Technology according to their preference.

The students who are following the Food and material Technology stream will be covering modules such as Food Chemistry, Processing, & Analysis, Industrial Chemistry, Fundamenta­l of Chemical Engineerin­g, Polymer Science, Petroleum, Pharmaceut­ical and Cosmetic Technology.

Similarly, the students specialisi­ng in Clinical Laboratory Technology will learn in depth of areas covering Clinical Biochemist­ry, Haematolog­y, M i c r o b i o l o g y, Pa r a s i t o l o g y, Histopatho­logy, Cytology, Toxicology and Molecular Diagnostic­s.

Students following both the streams will follow a module on Quality assurance and Accreditat­ion as well as should follow compulsory six months training at a laboratory related to their field of specialisa­tion.

Applicatio­ns are now open for the academic year of 2022/ 2024. Those who have followed GCE Advance Level in Science Stream are eligible to follow the Diploma in Laboratory Technology.

Students who successful­ly complete this course will be eligible to work as laboratory technician­s in laboratori­es and also will be eligible to register to follow the Graduatesh­ip in Chemistry course conducted by the Institute of Chemistry.

All the lectures and practical sessions are conducted in English medium, therefore having a sound knowledge in English is compulsory.
