-

College House is the oldest university building in this country with historical links to the first University College (1921) and then to the University of Ceylon (1942). It is now the subject of a new coffee table book -- ‘College House: The Cradle of Sri Lanka’s University Education’ edited by Professor Sandagomi Coperahewa and

Dr. Shravika Amarasekara that will be launched on Saturday, April 9 at Senate Hall, College House, University of Colombo at 5 p.m.

The 192-page hard back volume (with colour photos, illustrations and text) is published by the University of Colombo. Richly illustrated, the book seeks to bring forth the facts and other r rare photos related t to the history and a architecture of this heritage building. It charts the journey of the building from a family home to its present status as the heart of the University of Colombo.

The launch of this volume highlights the importance of protecting and preserving the historic buildings in the capital. Minister of Foreign Affairs and former Vice Chancellor of the University of Colombo Prof. G.L. Peiris will be the chief guest at the launch.
