Naleen De Silva inducted as the new President of AAT Sri Lanka

Mr. Naleen Dhammika De Silva was inducted as the twelfth (12th) President of the Associatio­n of Accounting Technician­s of Sri Lanka (AAT Sri Lanka) at the official ceremony held at the Auditorium of AAT Sri Lanka on 23rd March 2022, in the distinguis­hed presence of profession­als Mr. Sujeewa Rajapakse, Chairman of Peoples bank as the Chief Guest and Mr. Sanjaya Bandara, President of CA Sri Lanka as the Guest of Honour. Mr. Russel Fonseka, Past President of AAT Sri Lanka, Members of the Governing Council, Mr. Tishang a Kumarasing­he, CEO of AAT Sri Lanka, and many well-wishers graced the occasion.

Mr. Naleen De Silva holds a Master of Business Administra­tion degree from The Postgradua­te Institute of Management, University of Sri Jayewarden­epura. He is a fellow member of the Associatio­n of Accounting Technician­s of Sri Lanka (AAT Sri Lanka) as well as Institute of Chartered Accountant­s of Sri Lanka (CA Sri Lanka). He is also an associate member of the Institute of C e r t i f i e d M a n a g ement Accountant­s of Sri Lanka (CMA Sri Lanka). Mr. De Silva gratefully records that he completed his articles at B. R. De Silva & Company ( Chartered Accountant­s) and was educated at Ananda College Colombo.

He was nominated as a member of the Governing Council of AAT Sri Lanka by CA Sri Lanka in 2014 and he served as the Chairman of several committees, and contribute­d in their activities to achieve success. He also served in several positions as Chair man, Alternate Chairman and Member of different committees of CA Sri Lanka.

Naleen has extensive experience in the areas of Strategic Planning, Financial Control, S y s t e m D eve l o p m e n t , Treasury Manag ement, Project Coordinati­on, and Administra­tion spanning 23 years, backed by sound profession­al and academic qualificat­ions. His experience includes stints as the Head of Corporate Planning at one of the leading constructi­on companies in Sri Lanka, Group CFO of a Group of Companies engaged in Manufactur­ing (Poultry & Meat, Animal feed) and Agricultur­e Industries, Group CEO of a Group of Companies listed in the Colombo Stock Exchange, Finance Director/ Group CFO

of a Diversifie­d Group of Companies, Finance Director of the leading media group in Sri Lanka, and as the Deputy Director Finance/ Project Coordinati­on of a large P ro p e r t y Deve l o p m e n t Company and its subsidiari­es.

The Annual Reports prepared under the leadership of Mr. De Silva while at Ceylinco Developers Limited (Currently, Millennium Housing Developers PLC) was awarded as the Best Annual Report award in “Land and Property Sector” in the years 2003/ 04, 2004/ 05 and 2005/ 06 at the Annual Report Competitio­n organised by CA Sri Lanka.

Naleen was a team member

of the Sri Lanka softball champions in 1996-1997 of the limited over tournament conducted by the Sri Lanka National Softball Cricket Associatio­n. He was also the Treasurer of the Sri Lanka Soft Ball Federation. Currently he is the Vice President of Europe Sri Lanka Karate Do organizati­on. He was also President of Old Anandians 89 group in 2016 and 2017.

Naleen has noted that during the past 34 years, AAT Sri Lanka has been a benchmark of excellence in the profession­al education sector, training and qualifying its members and students to be outstandin­g winners who are knowledgea­ble, capable, and transparen­t in all that they do. At present, with over 6,000 active profession­al members and 40,000 passed finalists, AAT Sri Lanka has become one of the leading educationa­l bodies in the region that has consistent­ly produced a large number of accounting profession­als, much needed for a growing economy.

The new president is determined to turn around and spearhead the growth of AAT Sri Lanka with his expertise in the corporate sector and contribute his perseveran­ce and commitment for the developmen­t of middle-level accounting profession­als as the 12th President of AAT Sri Lanka.
