AN ADRENALINE FIX
The pretty, unassuming colonial-era town town of Jinja, east of the capital, Kampala is East Africa's adventure capital and is the base for a smorgasbord of adrenaline-fuelled activities from mountain biking to kayaking and bungee jumping; however, its location on the shores of Lake Victoria at the source of the Nile has made it popular as a rafting destination considered to be amongst the best in the world with a miscellany of routes from quiet pools and forested islands to thunderous to heart-thumping rapids and drops that include several grade IV and V rapids with evocative and slightly terrifying names such as Hypoxia, Hair of the Dog, Superhole, Bad Place, Real Deal and Jaws to navigate and complement the awesomeness of hanging out with gorillas.
