Premier Rajapaksa to meet SLPP local councillors tomorrow
Prime Minster Mahinda Rajapaksa will meet Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) local government members tomorrow to announce the party's position on the call for him to step down from the Prime Minister's post, party sources said.
Party General Secretary Sagala Kariyawasam confirmed that a meeting was scheduled to discuss the future action of the party, but declined to elaborate.
Tomorrow's meeting is being arranged after a special Cabinet meeting where Prime Minister Rajapaksa reportedly said that he was willing to step down, if there was a proper system in place following his resignation.
The Sunday Times learns that President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and other ministers had suggested that if the Prime Minister stepped down it would help to defuse the political unrest in the country.
