- By L. B. Senaratne

Officers of the Kegalle Police crimes division took quick actions to arrest a foreign couple of Jordanian and Egyptian origin on a complaint from a jewellery shop Kegalle about the loss of gold jewellery from their establishment.

Kegalle Crimes Division Chief Inspector Bandara and a team of officers arrested the couple while they were staying at a hotel in Kandy.

The staff from the jewellery shop said gold chains worth Rs. 553,000 had been stolen.

The couple had been looking at gold chains in the shop, and had then allegedly removed the items and put them in their purse.

The staff had checked the Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras in the shop after the couple left and saw recorded footage of the suspects stealing the gold chains.

Kegalle Police Chief Inspector Kulatunge said the couple was produced before the Kegalle magistrate's court and was remanded till May 12.
