St. Joseph Vaz claim hard fought win

St. Joseph Vaz College recorded a hard-fought win against traditiona­l rivals St. Mary's College, Chilaw in their 11th Limited Over Encounter, also known as the Battle of Fraternal, played at the UC ground in Chilaw yesterday.

Put into bat first, St. Mary's managed to post 221-9 with Shenol Appuhamy top scoring

CRICKET

with 84, while Kaushan Wijeratne claimed four wickets. St. Joseph Vaz lost wickets earlier on but great knocks from Chamath Yashohara (55), Dasun Perera (54), Kaushan Wijeratne (37n.o.) and Menusha Perera (36) enabled them to reach the target with 14 deliveries to spare. Dimuthu Anuhas claimed four wickets.
