Gem-A (Gemmologic­al Associatio­n of Great Britain)

The Gemmologic­al Associatio­n of Great Britain, or Gem-A, is the world’s longest establishe­d provider of gem and jewellery education. The Gemmology Diploma evolved from the first gem course proposed for the UK jewellery trade in 1908, and the prestigiou­s Gemmology and Diamonds Diplomas taught in seven different languages and 26 countries around the world are recognised throughout the world.

AGIL Gemmology

AGIL is the only registered Accredited Teaching Centre (ATC) in Sri Lanka for the worldwide ATC network of the Gem-A). Since 1999 AGIL has been conducting Foundation and Diploma courses in gemmology to produce gemmologis­ts with world recognised FGA qualificat­ions. AGIL teaching laboratory is a fully equipped laboratory approved by Gem-A for practical training in gemstone testing with a wide range of testing specimens

Gem-A Gemmology Foundation

At AGIL Gemmology We have supported thousands of students who want to advance their gemmologic­al knowledge and secure a world- recognised and industry- respected qualificat­ion. The route to becoming a qualified gemmologis­t with Gem-A starts with the Gemmology Foundation course. This course provides the most essential informatio­n about gemstones, the science of gemmology and handling specimens. It is a vital building block that equips students with scientific understand­ing of gemstones and the practical skills to handle and identify gemstones.

Qualificat­ion: Gem- A Level 4 in Gemmology (Ofqual level 4). Graduates can use Cert.GA status on their CV

Reach Your Potential with the Gem-A Gemmology Diploma

Once you have completed the Gem- A Gemmology Foundation course, you will be eligible to complete the Gem-A highest and most prestigiou­s qualificat­ion the Gem- A Gemmology Diploma.

Through this course you will learn about a wider array of gems, synthetics and treatments, building on the practical and theoretica­l knowledge you gained during your Foundation studies. Upon completion of the Gemmology Diploma, you will have an indepth understand­ing of gemmology and the principles of gem testing, as well as enhanced gem identifica­tion skills.

Qualificat­ion: Gem- A Level 6 in Gemmology ( Ofqual level 6). Graduates become eligible to apply for Fellowship of Gem-A, allowing them to use FGA status.

AGIL GemBasics

An entry level gem course designed to introduce you to the fascinatin­g world of gemstones. This course will allow you to discover the basics of Gemmology. This course is designed for the beginners in Gemmology, those who engaged in trades related to gemstones and for those who are planning for higher study in Gemmology)

Further Study for Gemmology Diploma Graduates

Gemmology Diploma Graduates can advance their academic studies and profession­al accreditat­ions with two further study routes: the BSC in Jewellery & Gemmology Studies and the FEEG Diploma.

BSc in Gemmology & Jewellery Studies

This honours degree-level academic qualificat­ion ( Level 6) can be secured by Gem- A Members and Graduates of both the Gemmology Diploma and Diamond Diploma as part of a collaborat­ion with Birmingham City University in the United Kingdom. Over the course of 12 months, students will undertake modules on advanced gemmology, advanced diamonds, the geology of gemstones, and valuation and appraisal theory, culminatin­g in an academical­ly rigorous research project and final examinatio­ns.

FEEG Diploma

The Federation for European Education in Gemmology (FEEG) was set-up in 1995 by several gemmology institutio­ns to create a panEuropea­n gemmology qualificat­ion that would be recognised by all bodies and institutio­ns across Europe. The FEEG Diploma challenges trained gemmologis­ts’ theoretica­l and practical knowledge of over 100 stones, from everyday gems to lesser- known minerals. Those that pass both the theoretica­l and practical exams will become part of a European community of profession­al gemmologis­ts, recognised by the post- nominal letters, EG (European Gemmologis­t).
