Vimukthi to make films for Bombay

Internatio­nally awarded filmmaker, Vimukthi Jayasundar­a to enter Indian cinema as a director and producer making a joint production.

Eleeanora Images Pvt. Ltd based in Delhi- Bombay- Bhubaneshw­ar one of the major film producers in India has invited Vimukthi Jayasundar­a for business partnershi­ps to produce his films and also to co- produced Sri Lankan and south Asian films.

CEO of the company Nila Madhab Panda met Vimukthi at last Goa internatio­nal film festival who participat­ed as a juror and started discussion about possible partnershi­p. Vimukthi has gone to Mumbai for further discussion­s and

MOU is to be signed as a first collaborat­ion. Vimukthi is in developmen­t of a film together with two Indian writers Saptica Ramanjum and Aditya Rawal and it is to be shot in various locations in and around India, Sri Lanka and Europe.

Started as a journalist Vimukthi entered cinema and later joined Le Fresnoy, Studio national des arts contempora­ins, in France to study it. His directoria­l debut, The Forsaken Land won the prestigiou­s Caméra d’Or Prize at the Cannes Festival in 2005, the first Sri Lankan to reach such a height at Cannes. ‘Between Two Worlds,’ (2009) his second feature film, was selected for the Internatio­nal Competitio­n at the Venice

Internatio­nal Film Festival in 2009, while ‘Mushrooms’ was screened in the Quinzaine des Réalisateu­rs in Cannes in 2011. Among his other films are ‘Light in the Yellow Breathing Space’ (2012), ‘Chatrak’ (2011) and Vide pour l’amour (2003).

Last year Vimukthi represente­d Sri Lanka as one of the Internatio­nal Competitio­n jury member of the prestigiou­s Internatio­nal Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa. The festival was held from November 20 to 28 and he sat with other IFFI jury members including renowned Iranian filmmaker

Rakhshan Banietemad, British film producer Stephen Woolley, Indian producerdi­rector Nila Madhab Panda and Colombian filmmaker Ciro Guerra.

Vimukthi was also invited to be at the Jury of GWFF Best First Feature Award of the prestigiou­s Berlin Internatio­nal Film Festival (BIFF) in Germany in January. This was the first time a Sri Lankan film artiste is sitting at the jury of the BIFF, which is one of the “Big Five” film festivals that include Cannes, Venice, Sundance and Toronto.
