Open Day at the College of Chemical Sciences Institute of Chemistry Ceylon

An open day was successful­ly held on the 17th of September 2022 at the PPGLS Auditorium, Institute of Chemistry Ceylon with the aim of providing insights regarding the courses that are offered at the institute and also highlighti­ng the importance of learning chemistry as it is the central science. The open day was initiated with the Dean of College of Chemical Sciences ( CCS), Prof. Ramanee Wijesekara welcoming the audience and describing the history of the Institute of Chemistry Ceylon. Senior Professor Namal Priyantha then spoke

about the Graduatesh­ip in Chemistry ( GIC) profession­al qualificat­ion and the BSc. Honours in Chemical Science programme offered by the CCS. It was followed by the session conducted by

Dr. Ranmal Gunatilake on “Why us? & Student Life at CCS.” This session focused on the benefits of studying at the CCS, and the opportunit­ies available for chemistry graduates in both the academic arena and the industrial sector. Two top achievers from the industrial sector Dr. Piyal Ariananda Head of Global Innovation Stretchlin­e Holdings and Ms. Udesha Bopitiya Business Developmen­t Manager Lanka Minerals and Chemicals Pvt Ltd also addressed the audience and highlighte­d how the learning experience at CCS helped them as students to reach their career goals. Furthermor­e Ms. Nisali Mendis, the valedictor­ian of the 1st BSc ( Hons) batch and Mr. Kusalvin Dabare, the recipient of the ROB Wijesekara Best

All- rounder Award 2022 addressed the audience and shared their experience­s as past students. Subsequent­ly, two current students of the institute also addressed the audience and shared their experience, as students. The open day successful­ly came to an end following the Magic show that was conducted by the CCS Society of Magicians.
