‘We The Kingdom’ : Sebs Carol Service

The Choir of St. Sebastian’s College, one of the prominent choirs amongst the catholic schools in the Archdioces­e of Colombo, will hold their annual ‘Carols and Christmas Show’ at the College Main auditorium on 11th December at 6.30 onwards.

Through the rapid journey of developmen­t over the years, the choir moves forward under the guidance of Rev.Fr. Sanjeewa Mendis , and the team is trained by Shihan Chamba and Sanjeeva E. Silva who are two proud products of the college choir. The Choir is conducted by Akila Silva and Nirmal Perera and led by Jerrom Fernando, Randika Fernando, Nirmal Perera Praveen Fernando.

The Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols is a service of Christians, who worship celebratin­g the birth of Jesus that is traditiona­lly followed at Christmas. The format was based on an Order drawn up by Edward Benson, later Archbishop of Canterbury, but at that time Bishop of Truro, in Cornwall.

Sebs Carol services are held from 2003 onwards consecutiv­ely for 19 years. Since 2003, up to date the annual carol service was developing year by Year due to the dedication and hard work of its interested parties, Which is the main Carol Service in Moratuwa . Since 2013 the carol service was continued, publishing a souvenir as a special feature in the history.

This year ‘Carol Service’ “We The Kingdom” will consist of two sessions. First session will take about 1 hour, and the second session will take about 45 minutes. The two sessions consist of: Traditiona­l Hymns (English/Latin), Classical compositio­ns of Great composers, Traditiona­l Sinhala Hymns and Modern classical compositio­ns.

There will be more than 100 school choristers from grades 5 to 13 will participat­e at this year’s Carols.

Chief celebrant- will be Rev.Dr. Malcom Ranjith , The Archbishop of Colombo.
